If you’ve been begging the Padres to promote Luis Urías, you’re getting your wish. But at what cost? As Dennis Lin reported, the second baseman is getting called up today, but Franchy Cordero will be going on the 10-day injured list in exchange. Franchy was pulled early in Saturday’s game against the Cardinals after he felt some elbow soreness. Elbow issues derailed his 2018 campaign, as he ended his season in late May to have surgery for a bone spur.
Joining the hard hitting outfielder who pairs well with fries is Aaron Loup, who’s allowed two earned runs over seven appearances out of the bullpen. Loup will be replaced by Brad Wieck, who makes his return to the majors after a January surgery for testicular cancer delayed his spring training. He made only one appearance in the Cactus League, but hopefully he’ll be stretched out and back in form for tonight’s series opener in San Francisco.
